How to Use an Older Dish Receiver to Get a Satellite Signal

    • 1). Contact your satellite provider. Tell them what receiver you are using and that you need an updated access card. The access card is mailed to you, free of charge, and should arrive in a few days time.

    • 2). Power down the old dish receiver you are using and find the access card slot. This slot is usually found on the front of the receiver (although the exact location varies depending on the receiver you are using). The access card is roughly the size of a credit card, so it shouldn't be terribly difficult to find the two-inch wide card slot.

    • 3). Open the card slot and remove any card currently housed inside. You may discard the card as it is no longer needed.

    • 4). Slide in the new access card you just received and close the card slot. Power on the old satellite receiver and the device automatically detects the newly inserted card. After a few moments it will scan the card and upload the updated information to the receiver. Once complete you are ready to begin viewing the satellite programming on the older dish receiver.
