How to Reduce Swelling in the Eyes When You First Wake Up

    • 1). Cover the frozen vegetable bag with a thin kitchen towel. Use only one towel layer over the bag part that you plan to rest on your eyes. A thin towel protects your face from coming in direct contact with a too cold bag and pointy bag corners.

    • 2). Hold the bag over your eyes and mold it into your under-eye crevices. The benefit of using pea or corn kernels is that they are small, which makes them easy to mold to your face. If the frozen vegetable bag is small, hold it under one eye for 10 minutes and then under your other eye for another 10 minutes. In this scenario, add an extra 10 minutes to your puffy eye reducing morning routine.

    • 3). Remove the thin towel from around the frozen vegetable bag and dip a section into the cold chamomile tea. Dip enough of the towel in the tea to cover both eyes at the same time. Wring out the towel so that it's just damp with tea. Hold the damp towel under your eyes for 10 minutes. Chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory properties, which help reduce puffiness.

    • 4). Pat your under-eye area dry with a damp section of the kitchen towel. Applying gentle care and avoiding pulling or tugging under your eyes prevents further damage to the related tissues and muscles.

    • 5). Use the pad on your ring finger to lightly dab a little caffeine-enhanced eye cream from the corner of your eye outward under your eye until you reach your outer eye. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, which helps to push fluid away.

    • 6). Add an extra pillow under your head at night. The extra height brings your head more vertical so fluid has more opportunity to drain on its own while you sleep.
