Casadielles - Spanish Walnut-Filled Bollinas Recipe

Casadielles pastries, or Bollinas de Nuez are like sweet, little empanadillas or turnovers, filled with chopped walnuts that have been soaked overnight in anise liqueur and sugar. The dough is rolled out and cut into small rectangles and filled with the nuts. Fried quickly in light vegetable oil and drained, the casadielles are then dredged in sugar and cinnamon.

Families in Asturias, Spain enjoy these traditional casadielles, especially at Christmas and Carnival.
