- 1). Check the tires for proper inflation with a tire gauge. If a tire is low, fill the tire to the appropriate pressure with an air compressor. Each tire has the correct tire pressure listed in it followed by the letters "PSI," which stand for pounds per square inch.
- 2). Position the mower on a hard flat surface such as a concrete floor.
- 3). Rotate the blades on the mower so the tips of the blade extend to the sides of the mower deck. Inspect the blades. If they are bent, have them replaced before you try to level the mower deck.
- 4). Measure the distance between the bottom of each blade to the ground with a tape measure. Measure at the top of each blade. If the measurement is off by more than 1/8 inch, adjust the mower. If the measures are within 1/8 inch, the mower is within specified tolerance and no adjustment is necessary.
- 5). Find the straight vertical bracket on the left rear of the mower deck that connects the deck to the hanging chain. If there is one, the deck uses an eccentric nut setup to raise and lower the height. If not, the mower is a J-hook model. A J-hook is a bracket in the shape of a J.
- 6). Loosen the outside nut on the eccentric nut setup with a wrench. Manually raise the mower deck until it is level and tighten the outside nut with a wrench. If it is a J-hook model, loosen the lock nut on the J-hook with a wrench and manually lift the mower deck until it is level. Tighten the lock nut with the wrench.
- 7). Double check the side-to-side measurements between the tip of the blades and the ground. Make any additional adjustments necessary until the blades are within 1/8 inch of one another.
- 8). Rotate the blades so they go from front to back and measure the distance between the bottom of the blades and the ground. The front blade should be ¼-inch higher than the back tip. If not, adjust the mower deck.
- 9). Loosen the lock nut on the front of the threaded bar that extends from the front to the back of the mower deck.
- 10
Turn the nut on the threaded bar at the back of the mower deck to raise or lower the back of the mower. When the deck is within tolerance, tighten the lock nut on the front of the mower deck.
