What to Look for When Buying a Motorcycle

    • 1). Know what type of motorcycle you want before you begin your search. There are many different types of motorcycles, including cruisers, sport bikes and touring bikes, so selecting the style you want will help save you time and energy.

    • 2). Evaluate how the bike looks overall. The paint should be shiny, the seat should not be worn and there should be no rust. Look for any scratches or dents to indicate that the bike has been wrecked or laid down.

    • 3). Look at the tires. There should be a good amount of tread left on the tires, and they should not be cracked or abnormally worn.

    • 4). Check under the motorcycle for any leaking fluid. Oil or gas leaks can be a cause for serious concern on your motorcycle.

    • 5). Ask to see the brakes on the motorcycle. The brake pads should still have at least an eighth of an inch of material on them. Any sticking or squeaking in the brakes should be checked over carefully.

    • 6). Take the motorcycle for a test drive. The engine should run strong, and the bike should travel straight down the road. Ride the motorcycle in a variety of terrain to make sure your new bike is a good fit for you.
