How to Place an Ad in Auto Trader

    • 1). Visit the AutoTrader website. Click on "Sell Your Car" and type your ZIP code. Click "Go."

    • 2). Click "Place Your Ad" to begin placing your ad with Autotrader.

    • 3). Choose your advertising package. Choose "Standard" (three weeks), "Enhanced" (eight weeks) or "Deluxe" (unlimited).

    • 4). Select the make, model and year of your vehicle, and then input the mileage. Type your asking price in the "Price" box. Select the vehicle's body style (convertible, coupe, sedan), transmission, interior color and exterior color, and then type the 17-digit vehicle identification number found above the driver's side edge of the hood. The VIN is optional.

    • 5). Select the options on your vehicle. Browse through the options list and place a check next to the applicable options, such as air conditioning, leather, CD player or sunroof.

    • 6). Type any custom notes into the "Add Comments" box. These notes will appear beneath the ad. You can use this to highlight any additional features. For example, you could note that the vehicle has always been maintained on time, or that you are the original owner.

    • 7). Click "Next" to upload your photos. AutoTrader recommends adding at least three photos, but photos are optional. Click "Next" to review the details of your ad. If you need to change anything, click "Edit" and make the changes.

    • 8). Input your credit card and billing information. Click "Submit" to process your order. Your car ad will appear on AutoTrader within a couple of hours.
