How to Repair a BlackBerry 8310

    Replace the LCD Screen

    • 1). Turn off the phone, and place the phone face down. Remove the back cover and the battery pack from its compartment. Slide the SIM card out of its metal slot holder inside the empty battery compartment. Locate the silver plastic cover below the empty battery compartment. This cover conceals the main data/charging port. Pull the cover off of the phone's casing.

    • 2). Loosen the two Torx screws in the upper right and upper left corners of the phone's back housing. Place the phone face up, and insert a credit card into the gap between the phone's front bezel and the main housing. This bezel is the main plastic piece covering the keypad and LCD screen. Work your way around the entire phone until the front bezel is completely removed.

    • 3). Loosen the four Torx screws from the black, metal cover that sits on top of the keypad. Remove the cover to reveal the keypad. Use your fingertips to pry off the long plastic pieces on each long edge of the phone. They should come off easily with the keypad cover removed.

    • 4). Use a thin flat-head screwdriver to disengage the white locking tab above the LCD screen. This fastens the screen's metal cover in place. Remove the cover from the screen and set it aside. Unplug the tiny ribbon cable in the upper left corner of the LCD screen. Lift the screen out of the phone, and set it aside.

    • 5). Place the new screen inside the phone and reconnect the ribbon cable to the new screen. Place the metal LCD cover on top of the new screen. Press down on the cover until it snaps into place. Replace the metal keypad cover and its retaining screws.

    Replace the Circuit Board

    • 1). Place the phone face down. Remove the Torx screws securing the back housing to the phone. Remove the back housing to reveal the main circuit board.

    • 2). Loosen all visible Torx screws fastening the circuit board in place. Unplug the visible ribbon cable from the circuit board. This connects the board to the main data port. Lift the board out of the phone's casing slightly. Unplug the keypad and LCD ribbon cables from the opposite side of the board. Remove the circuit board from the phone.

    • 3). Place the new circuit board inside the phone's housing, while connecting the keypad and LCD ribbon cables to the bottom side of the board. Align the screw holes on the board with screw holes on the BlackBerry's casing. Reattach the Torx screws to fasten the board to the phone. Reconnect the data port's ribbon cable to the connector on the new circuit board.

    • 4). Replace the rear housing and its retaining screws. Place the phone face up, and replace the long plastic pieces to each side of the phone's casing. Replace the main housing to the front of the phone. Press on each corner until the housing snaps into place.

    • 5). Replace the SIM card, battery pack and back cover. Power on your phone to test the new screen and circuit board.
