How to Make a Lattice Patio

    • 1). Measure the distance between the existing patio roof supports, if applicable. No additional supports are needed if the existing ones are spaced between four and eight feet apart.

    • 2). Measure around the perimeter of the patio if no roof supports are available or if they are not at the recommended spacing. Place a stake in the ground, just outside the paved patio area, every four feet around the outside of the patio.

    • 3). Dig a 12-inch-deep hole at each staked location using a post hole digger. Insert a 9-foot fence post into each hole. Fill in the hole around the base of the post and tamp the soil firmly in place.

    • 4). Set the lattice panels against the fence post. Panels come in a 4-by-8-foot size so they fit between posts with a slight overlap onto the post at each end of the lattice panel.

    • 5). Screw the panels to the fence posts on each side using wood screws. Space the screws 12 inches apart up the entire fence post. Repeat for each panel you are installing.

    • 6). Lay an 8-foot length of wood lathe over the seam where the lattice panels meet. Screw the lathe in place at the top, bottom and in the center of its length. The lathe hides the panel seams.
