President Bush II led us into a silly war thinking it would give him a step-up on terrorism.
Using propaganda, he pushed for the war to destroy Iraq's WMDs.
Vice President Cheney indicated that our troops would be welcomed as heroes despite the fact that the Iraqis had lost many fathers, brothers, cousins, husbands, and friends in a war with the President's father.
We don't think like the Iraqis.
The fact that the president was the son of a president that brought tremendous misery on Iraq was not lost on the Iraqis.
We went to war, destroyed the infrastructure of the country by excessive bombardment, and put the country in political disarray.
We did not disarm the populace nor could we shield the Iraqis from foreign intrusion.
We provided a front for the terrorist where they could efficiently fight what they call "The Great Satan.
" Congress remembers Vietnam and wants our troops out of Iraq.
They are very impatient because the American People want our troops home.
Few are strong enough to resist the force of the masses.
The President has created a mess--but he can not leave things that way.
He has to resolve the situation.
He must defeat the terrorist on this battleground.
If he does not, Iraq may become like Afghanistan under the Taliban.
Like Iran, another dictator will arise and things could become worse than under Saddam--if that is possible.
The President is serving his second term.
He may not be the smartest bean in the beanbag but he is the President.
I think he should be allowed to fight his war until the last day that he is in office.
We can afford to support him until that day.
If he succeeds, we and Iraq will be ahead.
If he does not succeed, then the next president will have to quickly resolve the problems in Iraq.
I did not vote for President Bush as I've stated before.
I didn't think that he had what it takes to be President.
But he learns as he serves and he should be allowed to workout his legacy.
I fought in Korea where the bill in blood was much more than what has been spent in Iraq.
We lost almost as many men in three years as were lost in ten years in Vietnam.
The fact of the matter is that we lost almost as many men in my regiment in Korea as have been lost in Iraq.
* I'm not saying that American blood is a commodity.
I'm just saying that we had to fight the war on terrorism and if we were not fighting it in Iraq we would be fighting it somewhere else.
We lost focus in our war.
Osama bin Laden is still on the prowl.
Fighting on two battlefields has not helped us find and destroy him.
We must keep the heat on Osama.
I've said (as Taylor Jones the Hack Writer) that he helped build the new Mecca and that perhaps he lives there protected from the non-Moslem world.
He may be sipping lemonade there right now.
When the World Trade Towers were hit by aircraft, I told me wife (from my years of experience working with materials at high temperatures) that the buildings would collapse.
I though about calling New York but I figured I would never get through, and that besides, there would be intelligent people there knowing what I knew.
Anyway, the first tower immediately collapsed and there was no need for the call.
In a way, the Twin Towers were our Mecca.
World Trade is one way to prevent war.
Now our Mecca has been destroyed.
I would warn the Arabs that their Mecca and Medina our not necessarily safe if we are ever attacked again.
The pressure would be for the Arab nations to stop supporting terrorist now.
The End *My regiment is still fighting terrorist.
