Crafts for LDS Activity Days

    Journal Craft

    • Members of the LDS church are encouraged to keep a journal to record spiritual experiences, personal revelation and day-to-day experiences. A great craft idea for Activity Days is to decorate inexpensive notebooks in order to motivate journal writing. There are many ways to personalize a journal. For example, LDSSplash.com suggests tying a ribbon around the journal for an elegant touch. Other ideas include embossing, gluing inspirational quotes throughout the notebook and applying stickers to the notebook. Complete the lesson by having the girls write in their new journals.

    Bookmark Craft

    • My Gospel Standards is a list of moral and spiritual standards that primary children are encouraged to embrace and live by. One great Activity Days crafts is a fun My Gospel Standards bookmark craft, which is featured on Library.lds.org. Print one bookmark out for each girl (the PDF version of the bookmark, along with detailed instructions, is available on the site.) Have the girls glue the bookmark onto card stock and glue the front and back of the bookmark together. Next, punch a hole in the top and loop a ribbon through it. The result is a lovely bookmark that is both practical and inspirational.

    Letter Craft

    • Many craft stores sell individual wooden alphabet letters. A fun and personalized craft for Activity Days is for the girls to decorate the first letter of their name. If the budget allows, buy a letter for each of the girls' first names. Before they decorate it, they should sand the wood and apply a base coat of paint. Once the base coat dries, the girls can paint their letters however they choose. Add ribbon, craft foam and glitter for extra decoration.

    Cupcake Craft

    • Another fun Activity Days craft idea is a fun culinary and edible craft. Recommended by Mormontimes.com, this activity teaches that although people are the same in many ways, each girl is unique and loved by the heavenly father. Bake or buy enough cupcakes for each girl. Bring several types of toppings, including different colored frosting, string licorice and small candies. Have each girl decorate her own cupcake in any way she chooses. When finished, have each girl display her cupcake to the other girls. Even though the cupcakes are made up of the same ingredients, each one is special and unique -- just like the girls themselves.
