- The Blue Book offers specifications and standards of the enhanced compact discs also, referred to as stamped multi-sessions. This guide is a supplement of the Orange Book, formally referred to as the Phillips and Sony's Recordable CD Standard. Philips and Sony created the Blue Book in 1995.
- This particular guidebook explains the format for enhanced CDs that allows you to include various multimedia files such as images, video clips and text on to a regular audio compact disc. The enhanced CDs under the Blue Book standards have the ability to storage audios, images and directories.
- When you play the enhanced CD in a standard compact disc player the compact disc plays normal. However, when you insert an enhanced CD in a unit with multimedia capabilities such as a CD-ROM drive on a laptop, you have the ability to view and interact with other features on the enhanced CD. Under the Blue Book specifications standard, a regular audio CG player cannot access the data tracks, which protect the CD from damage.
- The Blue Book standard has two sessions that combine information from the Yellow Book and Red Book. The first session lies closest to the middle of the compact disc and holds 99 Red Book audio tracks, while the second session sits along the outside border of a compact disc and contains data tracks based on the Yellow Book specifications for read-only memory compact discs. The Red Book standard denotes the format that manufactures must record audio CDs for it to play properly in a CD player. The Red Book holds the physical arrangement of the data on a CD and it allows the CD to store various data besides audio files.
