Instructions for Making Wax Layer Cake Candles

    • 1). Put 16 ounces of beeswax into a coffee can. If you are a coffee drinker, you can recycle one of the cans from home. Otherwise, any can will do. Make sure you clean it thoroughly and it is large enough to accommodate the beeswax. Beeswax may be purchased online or from your local grocer.

    • 2). Position the coffee can in a cooking pot that is large enough to hold it. Pour water into the pot until it reaches the halfway mark.

    • 3). Place the pot on the stove and turn the burner on to medium-high heat. Let it sit until the wax is completely melted, then turn off the burner to prevent scorching.

    • 4). Cut the cotton wick to 8 inches in length. Each 8-inch length will produce two candles. Cut enough wicks to accommodate the number of candles you plan to make.

    • 5). Carefully dip each end of the wick into the melted beeswax. Coat about 3 inches of wick on each end, leaving 2 inches of wick in the middle. Remove the wicks after two seconds. Repeat this process until the candles are 1/4 inch in thickness.

    • 6). Set the candles aside to cool.

    • 7). Cut the wicks evenly down the middle to separate the candles. They are now ready to use.
