How to Replace a Sony Camcorder Hard Drive

    • 1). Locate the single screw holding the outer panel in place. This screw is usually located in the lower right corner of the panel that has big "HDD" lettering on it. Once found, unscrew it using your screwdriver and set the screw to the side.

    • 2). Lift the outer panel away from the camcorder and place it to the side.

    • 3). Slide the inner panel forward, towards the lens, until it slides away from the camcorder. Place it to the side with the outer panel.

    • 4). Take the hard drive and slide it the same way you did the inner panel until the thin ZIF connector is outstretched. Carefully disconnect the ZIF from the hard drive and place the hard drive to the side.

    • 5). Connect your new hard drive to the ZIF connector and slide it into place. Once done, slide the inner panel back on the same way you removed it and reattach the outer panel by securing the screw.

    • 6). Start the camera and enter your camera's options menu. From there, select "Format Hard Drive" to format the drive for your camera, thus enabling its use on the device.
