Use caution when working with a hand saw to avoid injury.cutting wood image by Horticulture from Fotolia.com
Cut the wooden board to a length of 8 1/4 inches using the hand saw. Now cut the board to a width of 2 3/4 inches. When finished, the board will measure 1 inch thick, 2 3/4 inches wide and 8 1/4 inches long. - 2). Place the board into the miter box. The 1-inch side should be down on the bottom of the miter box, and the 8 1/4-inch long by 2 3/4-inch wide face should be against the side of the miter box.

You can use a table saw for this as well, just make sure to mark the proper angle befor cutting.detail of circular saw image by Thor Jorgen Udvang from Fotolia.com
Cut a 40-degree angle from the very end of the board using the hand saw. One board face will now measure 8 1/4 inches long by 2 3/4 inches wide and the other side will be 2 3/4 inches wide by shorter in length than the other side. - 4). Place the board with the smaller side face down on a flat surface. The side facing up should measure 2 3/4 inches wide by 8 1/4 inches long. Starting on the end that has the angled cut, measure up 6 5/8 inches from the bottom and mark the center. Using the tape measure, make sure the mark is centered, 1 3/8 inches from each side.

Load the hole saw onto the drill. Using the point you marked onto the board as the center point for the hole, drill out the hole. When finished, you should have a 1 3/16-inch hole drilled all the way through your board. - 6

Lightly sand any rough edges of your gravity wine bottle holder, if desired. Give your gravity wine bottle holder a couple of coats of wood stain, if desired. - 7). Insert the wine bottle neck through the hole cut into the board with the longer side facing the wine bottle. Standing the board up along the 40-degree angle cut side, the board will now balance with the bottle as a counterweight.
