Mayflower Crafts

    Mayflower Hats

    • Cut a 7-inch-wide strip of blue cardboard that fits around your head. This is your headband. Draw a wave-like pattern on one side and cut along it so the strip looks like the ocean. On another piece of cardboard, cut out a small boat measuring 10 inches long and 4 inches high. Paste it at the center of the headband. Cut two small sails from colored construction paper. Tape a drinking straw vertically on the boat and paste the sails on the straw. Cut a small triangle flag and paste it at the top of the straw. Use paper clips to fasten the hat together.

    Miniature Mayflower Boat

    • Crack a walnut in half and press a ball of clay inside one shell. Cut three rectangle sails from colored paper and tape one on three toothpicks. Stick the toothpicks in the clay. Fill a glass bowl with water and let the miniature Mayflower boat sail in it.

    Mayflower Thanksgiving Centerpiece

    • Wash and dry an empty cardboard milk carton; cut it in half vertically. Paint the carton brown; this will be the boat. Roll clay into a small ball and stick it in the center of the boat. Cut two triangle sails from colored construction paper. Use a black marker to write "Give" on one sail and "Thanks" on the other. Tape the sails on a wooden skewer. Put the sail that says "Give" higher than the one that says "Thanks." Stick a small flag on the top of the skewer. Put a dot of glue on the bottom of the skewer and push it in the clay ball. Shred brown paper and fill the boat with it. Place the boat on a table. Cut small leaves out of different colored sheets of construction paper. Place these pieces of paper next to the boat. People can write down things they are thankful for on the pieces of paper, and put them in the boat.

    Cucumber Salad Boat

    • Slice a cucumber in half. Use a melon scooper to remove the inside of the cucumber. Beat some sour cream dip, add a little shredded cucumber and pour the mix into the cucumber skin. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Take three wood skewers and push black and green olives through them. Cut three small flags from construction paper and tape one on each skewer. Press the skewers through the dip and into the cucumber skin. Serve crackers on a side plate.
