Have hope and change failed? In watching the occupy protests going on in many states and cities across America, one has to ask if the vision for "hope and change" has failed its chief supporters, voters, and religious like supporters.
As a spectator of American politics, I'd have to say that's definitely part of it.
After all, there was no real meaningful change, and the changes which occurred only made things worse, leaving hope on the side of the road for road kill, and driving the nation towards a cliff of despair.
There was an interesting piece recently in Foreign Affairs Magazine titled; " Why Occupy Wall Street is Not the Tea Party of the Left - the Long History of Protests in the US," by Sidney Tarrow, published on October 10, 2011 which stated; "Unlike other movements, the rallies across the United States have no distinct constituency, put forward few policy proposals, and have a shifting configuration of supporters.
They are something new.
These are 'we are here' protests.
" Okay so, the "We Are Here Protests" then are nothing more than "Sound and Fury Signifying Nothing," is that it, well, I guess we've come to expect this from the mindless masses of humanity.
Still, that kind of throws the wisdom of the crowd out the window doesn't it? Now these protests have gone global, with "occupy" protests in Tokyo, Greece, France, Italy, and 82 countries in all, well, at least that is the embellished number we are getting from its main supporters and financiers anyway.
In the US the protestors, marchers, and some say malcontents are mostly benign and harmless, and yet the chain reaction this is setting off in other less politically stable nations is anything but harmless.
Riots broke out in Greece, as tension is already high there.
The Arab Spring, turned into an almost Arab Summer, Arab Fall, and soon we could have an Arab Winter as food commodity prices rear their ugly heads once more.
We still have challenges in Egypt, Syria, and other places, who knows which country is ready to implode next.
When civilizations break down, no one is well-served.
And one has to ask if humans just do whatever the TV or social media tells them, if so, then we have a real problem on our hands, the masses are restless, and in many countries out of control.
Indeed, I can understand why people feel betrayed by the promises of "hope and change" but is anyone too surprised, I mean those promises were bathed on the backs of socialist theory, socialism doesn't work, history has proven that enough already, in fact, it's still proving it today, around the globe.
I just don't know why anyone is surprised or what all these people are doing marching around like that, other than they are unemployed by choice or circumstance and have nothing better to do with their day? Please consider all this.
