Mongolia definitely is an emerging destination in world tourism and has a great to offer for seasoned travelers who are eager to travel Mongolia and discover Mongolian culture and wilderness. From the arid Gobi Desert, to the snowy peaks of the Altai Mountains, this country is an adventure waiting to happen. Because of its ancient history and beautiful landscapes, many want to travel to Mongolia but most of them have no idea which of the many Mongolia tours to take. Here are some of the things you shouldn't miss on your Mongolia tour.
Spend one night in a GER.
Once you get out of the capital, you will get to see the true Mongolian lifestyle. Since you're in Mongolia, why not experience the life of a nomad? This once in a lifetime experience will expose you to a typical daily life in a Mongolian GER. You don't have to worry since most Mongolian families which you will be staying with, have incorporated a little bit of modern living into their homes. A typical tourist GER has 1-4 beds, a stove with a chimney and a table and several stools. Some even have satellites so you can listen to the radio, and if you're lucky, your family could even own a television. Spending a night with a Mongolian family means that you have to do everything such as herding sheep, riding a horse, and tasting the local cuisine. Don't ever miss doing this on your tour to Mongolia.
Visit the birthplace of Genghis Khan
Mongolia will always be attached to the great Genghis Khan or Chinggis Khan as called by the Mongols themselves, and a trip to his birthplace is one of the most popular activities when it comes to Mongolia tours. Do not forget to visit his monument in Deluun Boldog which is believed to be his birthplace. Another tourist destination in the area is the Burkhan Khaldun Mountain which is believed to be the final resting place of the great Khan.
The Gobi Desert
Listed as one of the great deserts in Asia, the Gobi Desert is worth visiting on your Mongolia tours. The Gobi desert looks different from other deserts such as the Sahara, since there are very few sand dunes in the area. Here you will find the few remaining two humped Bactrian camels and is the only place with a desert-inhibiting bear, the Gobi Bear. The temperature in the area is quite extreme, with temperatures dropping to -40° during winter, and spiking up to 40° during the summer. When one decides to travel to Mongolia, there is no limit to the wonders and beauty that this country can offer. The capital, Ulan Bator is slowly emerging as an urban metropolis with luxury hotels and restaurants being built all over the city. However the real adventure happens beyond the city of Ulan Bator where an exciting venture is waiting to happen.
