- 1). Make sure you have a full tank of gas before you return the rental car. If the tank is lower than it was when you picked up the car, the rental car company will charge you its price per gallon to fill up the tank. Its price may be two to three times the price of a gallon of gas you would pay at a gas station.
- 2). Return your rental car on time. If you are late, the rental car company will charge you an hourly fee until the fees equal the daily cost of renting the car.
- 3). Drop off your car at the same place where you picked it up. Many car companies will charge a drop-off fee if you return your car to a different location. If you need to drop off the car in a different location, find a rental company that does not charge a drop-off fee.
- 4). Make a note of any damage to the car when you pick up the car. If you do not record any previous damage and you return the car with that damage, the car company may consider you responsible for it.
- 5). Make sure you do not exceed daily mileage limits, if your rental company restricts how many miles you can driver per day. You will be charged for every mile above the daily limit.
