    • Maine has several summer camps geared especially for girls.camping image by Rick Sargeant from Fotolia.com

During the summer months, most of us look forward to spending a week or two laying in the sun and enjoying some quality relaxation time. Then it's back to the 9-to-5 grind. Our kids however, still have plenty of summer vacation to burn, which poses the question of what to do with them. Summer camp is what many parents choose to fill their children's idle hours. Maine, for example, has several girls camps that are worth a look.

    Camp Kippewa for Girls

    • Camp Kippewa for Girls, is located on Cobbosseecontee Lake in Monmouth. Established in 1957, the camp offers two four-week sessions to girls ages 7 to 15 with six different activities scheduled daily; one session is in June and the other in July. The girls are allowed to customize the daily activities by choosing which they prefer. Activities offered include arts and crafts, dance and theater, horseback riding, sailing, water skiing, canoeing and tennis. The aim of the camp is to help young girls feel more empowered in their lives by choosing for themselves what interests and activities they enjoy and want to experience.
