Skateboarding is rapidly growing in popularity. According to the Houston Chronicle, there are more than 1,000 public skate parks in the United States. Maryland's parks and recreation departments have responded to demand by creating skate parks and skateboarding summer camps. These summer camps will help your child learn how to skateboard, or help them improve their skills. They are supervised and held on municipal properties, which are insured.
Additionally, skate camps encourage physical activity, which in turn promotes health and confidence. Mary Gavin M.D. of kidshealth.org says, "...kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle physical and emotional challenges..." Skateboarding will get your kids active and fit in a way that they think is "cool." - The Ocean Bowl Skate Camp is a day camp sponsored by the Ocean City Recreation and Parks department. It is held at the Ocean Bowl---a municipally owned and operated skate park. Accepting skaters of all skill levels, this camp will help beginners ride for the first time and help an advanced skater push their abilities to the next level. Kids age 6 to 17 years old are welcome and the camp runs Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Ocean City website states that helmets, kneepads and elbow pads are required.
