Lighting LED Products

LED products are made with light-emitting diodes, specialized transistors that produce light as well as heat when an electrical current runs through the device. LEDs have many benefits: They use very little power compared with other lighting options, and they last much longer than even fluorescent bulbs. There are several areas where LEDs are sold commercially in a variety of colors and intensities.

    Linear Fixtures

    • Linear fixtures refers to all the bar-like and LED array lights use in houses and factories. Under-cabinet LEDs are one of the most common types of linear fixture--they provide light for the counter space in kitchens the same way fluorescent tubes can. Larger LED arrays are used to provide light in factories. Some are also used as grow lights, although it takes a combination of many different LED colors to produce a workable grow light.

    Flexible LEDs

    • Flexible LEDs are attached to a strip of plastic or other flexible material. These LED products are portable and durable, equipped with waterproofing and color-changing features. People can use these flexible LED strips to outline objects, creating landscaping effects, and decorate for holidays. Flexible LEDs should not be confused with fiber-optic cable, which does not actually produce light, but just channels it.

    Lamp

    • LED lamps are general products used for many different applications. There are LED flashlights, spotlights, and street lights, all using basic lamp shapes. A single LED is too small to provide useful light, so these lamps use clusters of LEDs, dozens at a time. The LEDs can be either focused or dispersed to provide different kinds of light.

    Electronics

    • The first products LEDs were used in were electronics, and this continues to be a popular use for the technology. Once used primarily as indicator lights in computers, LEDs have moved to washing machines, refrigerators, ovens, cell phones, and many other devices. Since indicator lights do not need to be large, manufacturers use only one or two LEDs for each light.
