How to Train Your Waves

    • 1). Get your hair cut down to 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch long all around. Hair that is this length gets wavy faster than longer or shorter hair.

    • 2). Wash and dry your hair. Apply a leave-in moisturizer, and work it into your hair and scalp.

    • 3). Brush your hair starting at the crown and working down to the edges of your scalp. Use a boar-bristled brush for this process, which naturally distributes oil and makes hair shiny and smooth. Continue to brush your hair in this pattern for 10 to 20 minutes. You will start to see some ripples forming as the hair is pressed down against your scalp.

    • 4). Lay a damp, warm towel on your head for two minutes to let your hair absorb the moisturizer you applied.

    • 5). Remove the towel, and apply wave pomade throughout your hair. Work in the pomade starting at your crown and rubbing it toward your edges.

    • 6). Brush your hair again, starting at the crown and working your way down. Continue to brush for 10 minutes.

    • 7). Tie a tight do-rag on your head to keep your hair pressed down in the wave pattern. Wear this at night or when you want to make your waves look tighter.

    • 8). Brush your hair every day with the wave pomade, and always wear the do-rag at night. Only shampoo your hair once a week to keep the waves from fluffing up.
