How to Publish Your Own Telephone Directory

    • 1). Decide the format the telephone directory will take. If you want a straight name and number like you find in the white pages, or if you want to expand to include address and a business blurbs like you find in the yellow pages, then you need to keep that in mind from the beginning of the project.

    • 2). Collect all of the information that you want to include in the telephone directory. For instance, if you want it to be the names, addresses and phone numbers for members of a subdivision then you need to contact all persons in the subdivision and get that information. If you're putting together a directory for a business, then you need to collect the contact information for all of the departments and the names of all the individuals in each department.

    • 3). Type this information up in a telephone format. You can use any word processor program to create the directory virtually. You can also include ads for those who are willing to pay for advertising space in the telephone directory. Once you've got the directory created virtually, then you're ready to go to the printer.

    • 4). Get your telephone directory printed. You can go to any print shop and ask them to print the directory in book format, and to bind it for you. You'll be able to select the cover design and any additional effects you want put on the directory. Once you've paid for the number of copies you need, then all you have to do is distribute the directories.
