How to Build a Livewell for Bass

    Livewell Plumbing

    • 1). Drill three 3/4-inch holes in the water tank, two of them at roughly the same height toward the top edge of the tank, and the third at the bottom edge of the tank.

    • 2). Attach barbed hose adapters to the holes with the threaded ends in the tank and the barbed adapter ends on the exterior of the tank. Screw the adapters in place with the nylon nuts and washers, and then seal the adapters in place with silicone caulk.

    • 3). Attach a piece of 5/8-inch hose long enough to reach the back of the boat and into the water to one of the upper hose adapters. This hose is the tank's overflow discharge hose.

    • 4). Attach a shorter piece of 5/8-inch hose to the adapter in the lower hole. Attach the other end of this line to the inlet side of the recirculation pump. Attach a second hose from the outbound side of the recirculation pump to the hose adapter in the other upper tank hole. This hose-circuit forms the recirculation / aeration pathway for tank water.

    • 5). Attach a piece of 5/8-inch hose from the seacock valve on the recirculation pump and terminate this hose at the rear of the boat, below the water line. This hose is the water inlet, or supply, for the tank. When the pump is turned on, it will pull water into the tank, and when the tank is full, it will recirculate and aerate the water.

    Livewell Electrical Pump Connections

    • 1). Connect the electrical connections on the recirculation pump to the boat's electrical system. First connect the pump switch to a convenient location on the boat's dash.

    • 2). Connect one side of the two electrical connections on the pump to one terminal on the pump switch with 16 gauge electrical wire.

    • 3). Connect the second terminal on the pump switch to the positive side of the boat's electrical system, or to the positive terminal on the boat's battery.

    • 4). Connect a wire from the negative side of the boat's battery, or ground source to the second wire on the recirculation pump. The switch will now turn the recirculation pump on and off.
