- 1). Choose a hook that is in proportion to your baby tuna. Anything too large will cause the bait to move around unnaturally in the water, and it will be less likely to attract the attention of other fish. As a general rule, a 6 or 8 ought hook would be appropriate when using a baby tuna as bait.
- 2). Hook the tuna in its bottom lip and through the nostril. This method will cause the fish to swim downward in the ocean. Additionally, it is the least stressful way to hook a tuna. The bait will maintain its energy level without becoming so active that it abruptly dies.
