Treatment for a Sour Stomach

    Bread and Crackers

    • Eating bread will help absorb much of the excess stomach acid. And crackers or pretzels both absorb acid well.

    Drink Tea

    • Warm tea is known for its soothing qualities, especially when mixed with honey. Choose an herbal tea or try tea with peppermint, chamomile, cinnamon, ginger, blackberry or raspberry to help soothe stomach pain and flush out excess acid. The soothing properties also will help your body relax, which in turn will decrease acid production.

    Decrease Gas Pressure

    • Many times a sour stomach turns painful as gas pressure builds. To relieve excess gas, drink a carbonated beverage or soda water. The carbonation almost immediately will relieve gas pressure, releasing tension in your stomach. If you're lying down on a sofa or bed, keep your head elevated to prevent excess acid from seeping into your esophagus. Use extra pillows under your head and upper back.
