What Is True Love?

Love is a concept people are constantly taking about.
But how can we define "true love", and does such a thing exist in our world?

As Michael Laitman explains in our physical world we can talk about affection, mutual satisfaction, hormonal lust, care and obligation towards the family but these do not fulfill the definition of true love.

Love is a state when a one rises above personal desires, calculations, becoming capable of disconnecting from the self. In that independent state one is free to enter the desires and thoughts of others without any personal, subjective disturbance.

Sensing and fulfilling the desires of others without any involvement of the "self" is called love. This love is unconditional, moreover such love extends beyond the usual circle of "loved ones" since the subjective self doesn't filter those "to be loved" any more.
Such an independent, "selfless" person attains, treats reality as a single, integral system considering everybody as crucial part. So one naturally starts loving everybody without any bias becoming a natural partner, caretaker of the whole system flowing with its energy, following its plan and purpose.

At the moment what we consider love is just natural instincts as in other living creatures except that in humans our egoistic nature distorts even this instinctive "love" into different selfish directions.
Even in our family relationships without rising above our selves we simply coexist based on mutual interest, compromise without real love. And as our self-centered nature develops such mutual compromise is harder to be maintained thus divorce, the breakdown of the family model is widespread today.

In order to reach true love first if all a new, unprecedented desire has to wake up in us above the usual desires of this world. Then through the right environment we have to dedicate our life to finding that independent point from where we can sense and fulfill the desires of others. And in the process we can enter the presently unattainable integral system around us, identifying with its forces and purpose.

Although many people consider education as a major factor separating humans from animals, today education fails the young generation. While animals correctly educate their offsprings to adapt to and survive in their natural environment, our human offsprings do not know how to cope with life in the modern global human society. Many fall for drugs, alcohol abuse, and many even commit suicide.
Human education is made more difficult by the fact that people take much longer to develop, and if the existential conditions change in the meantime the present education doesn't not prepare people for flexibility, adaptation.
We simply don't give the youth the right foundations in mutual relationship building, sexuality, basic psychology and about the structure of the global interdependent world. We are giving enormous amount of data, even "intelligence" but it cannot replace the necessary psychological, relationship building skills our mutual life depends on.
