Quarterback Camps in Alabama

While there are many football camps in Alabama offered by high schools, colleges and individual organizations, few are specific to quarterbacking. Due to the high degree of difficulty in playing this position, individualized attention should be a priority. Each of these camps offers that attention to detail even if it involves working with other skill-position players. Working with these players develops timing and accuracy, two tools that are essential to a quarterback.

    Darin Slack Quarterback Academy

    • The Darin Slack Quarterback Academy has camps all around the country and typically holds its Mobile, Alabama, camp in the summer. This camp is for seventh- to 12th-graders and features a low ratio of just 10 students for every instructor. This camp provides a broad base of training for a quarterback playing in any offense.

The curriculum at these camps focuses on quarterback stance and quarterback/center exchange. Campers will learn about the option, handoffs and play-action, toss sweeps, passing mechanics and dropbacks and reading coverages. The camp uses advanced computer systems to track throwing mechanics and footwork. It also offers education on leadership since the quarterback is often the leader of the team. In 2010, the Darin Slack Quarterback Academy camp cost $299 with lunch provided on the second day. Some discounts were available. Although the camp's location in Mobile has not been determined, you can contact the camp at its main offices for more information.
