Alcohol and Smoking Causes Heart Attack

If your life is more important to you than a few moments of astronomical sensations, it is high time you put down that drink and kick that cigarette butt right out of your life. Doctors state that cigarette smoking not only causes damage to the lungs but also has severe effects on one's cardiac well-being.

The following contents of a cigarette make it one of the most detrimental addictions:

Nicotine: A drug that causes people to get addicted to cigarettes, Nicotine is said to impact the muscle and brain activity. It increases blood pressure which in turn makes it hard for the heart to work efficiently.

Carbon monoxide: It is a toxicant gas that makes the heart beat faster as it replaces oxygen in the blood. The tar sticks to the lungs making it difficult for the smoker to breathe.

Tar: Tar is a sticky and toxic substance that harms the lungs of the smoker.

Heavy smokers are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases than individuals who do not smoke at all. The likelihood of getting a stroke increases by three times if you smoke. A cigarette is said to reduce ten minutes of your life.  Passive smoking can also take a heavy toll on an individual. Individuals who do not smoke but live with smokers are 30 percent as likely to get a heart disease. Exposure to cigarette smoke during childhood increases the risk of getting sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis.

Alcohol is no angel either. Drinking heavily over a long time increases the likelihood of causing heart diseases. It also makes you susceptible to high blood pressure which is a well-established factor for heart diseases. Excessive drinking also leads you to gain weight which again increases your blood pressure. It causes the heart to beat irregularly. Heavy drinking renders the heart inefficient to pump blood thereby weakening the heart muscle. This is because, when an individual drinks alcohol, it eventually reaches the bloodstream and moves around the organs of the body, including the heart. This disorder of the heart muscle is called cardiomyopathy and can cause untimely death. If an alcohol drinker has medicines, over-the-counter or as prescribed by a doctor, it interferes with the medicine and causes harmful side effects. Apart from the harmful effects that alcohol causes on the cardiovascular system, it also causes other health problems like cirrhosis, different types of cancer, pancreatitis, accidents, murder and even suicides.

Binge drinking increases the likelihood of coronary heart diseases in both men and women. Heavy drinking causes disturbance in the heart rhythm. The heart rate also becomes rapid. This rapid heart rate can lead to a sudden heart attack if the individual has heart problems. One must know that an individual who is a heavy drinker runs a high risk of heart attacks and heart diseases. It is imperative especially for young adults to understand the risk factors associated with binge drinking.
