- To lend an item to another player, one player must send a trade request to the other player. After both players accept the trade request, the trade interface box opens on each players screen. The lending player must place an item in the trade box and right-click the item to differentiate between lending and selling. After selecting the "Lend" option, the lending player must select the loan's duration, which is between one and 24 hours or until either player log outs. After both players click the "Accept" button, the trade is complete and the borrowing player receives the item in his inventory.
- After the borrowing player receives the item in his inventory, he gains full access to the item for the duration of the loan. If the item is a weapon or a piece of armor, the borrowing player can use the item during combat. If the player borrows an item to train skills, all features of the item are available to the borrowing player. At any time during the loan, the borrowing player can return the item to the lending player by right clicking the item in his inventory and selecting "Discard." The item is returned to lending player's bank.
- After the duration of the loan, the lending player can obtain the item by speaking to a banker. Collecting a lent item is similar to collecting items from the Grand Exchange. All bankers throughout Gielinor have the ability to return lent items, with the exception of bank chests.
- Generally, when a player dies, all items in the player's possession remain under the gravestone, which generally lies at the place of death. In most cases, the player is allowed to protect three items, which are generally the most expensive items in the player's possession. If the borrowing player is wielding the borrowed item or has the item in his inventory, the borrowed item is protected above all other items, regardless of its worth. If the player dies while skulled, the item is returned to the lending player immediately upon death.
