  Interior designing your own home is a joyous and rewarding pastime. The end results is so pleasing that you feel a great sense of satisfaction and achievement. Many do's and don'ts exist regarding color suggestions, and hundreds of sources are available from which to choose a style when designing a room. Simply flipping through some home decorating magazines can offer a world of choices and suggestions for color schemes and tips for accessories or décor items.
  
  

Neutral Colors

• Hotel chic has become a large fashion statement for many homes since the early 2000s. Hotel designs began to capture the imagination of home decorators. Neutral colors consisting of beige, coffee, brown, cream, gold, tan and other shades of neutral colors can enhance a bedroom or living room with contrasting and complementary shades. Darker versions like chocolate brown match well with coffee and gold. You can blend them all with white and light creams to make for contrasting designs. Use sheets and bed cover accessories that are dark mixed with light for a full spectrum of complementing fashion statements.
  
  

Primary Colors

• Primary colors offer a brighter choice of design but are not always suited to every room in the home. A playroom is well suited to vibrant primary options, mixing blues, yellows and reds. Children's playful designs, like animal motifs and stencils keep them inspired, energized and learning. Place color-coded toys in the room to keep the children amused. Primary colors are not totally suited for use as bedroom colors. A bedroom is a place to relax, and all three primaries are too bright and distracting for a calming room. Red in some cultures represents anger, and Feng Shui red is not a good color for bedrooms because it causes anger and arguments. Blue is a cooler color, and some tones of blue which are well suited to a bedroom--if they are warmer blues, like aquamarine or indigo, but cold blue colors won't work.
  
  

Warm Colors

• Bringing warmth and coziness to a room helps create a welcoming atmosphere. A hallway can benefit greatly from a warm color, greeting people on entrance to the home. Yellow is a welcoming color and also a visible one. Even on a dark and rainy winter's day, a yellow hallway brings a sense of sunshine inside. Yellow also complements gold and brown, so placing darker accessories with the yellow walls gives it extra dimension.
  
  

Natural Colors

• Green is the color of nature and fits just about anywhere in the home. Sage green walls with mint green accessories perfectly suit a conservatory or sun room in your home. Furniture to complement the surroundings can help bring the outdoors inside with a spectacular display of natural vibrancy. Bright yellow and orange accessories add the flowery touch and keep continuity between garden and home.
