How to Cite an Email in a Reply

    • 1). Open the email that you want to cite by clicking on it. Click on "Forward" to include the entire previous message, including the sender, date, time and subject line of the original email. Type your message above the original email message.

    • 2). Copy the text you want to quote. Type the full name of the person you're quoting, followed by her email address. Add the date and the time you received the email. Include the subject line of the email in the citation.

    • 3). Paste the quoted material below the citation. Place quotation marks at the beginning and at the end of the quoted material. Use italic or bold print so that the quoted material is easily identified. Continue typing your message below the quote.
