  Emmitsburg, a small town in northern Maryland, is a 10-minute drive from Pennsylvania's Gettysburg National Military Park, the site of the infamous Civil War battle. Before the Battle of Gettysburg, Emmitsburg was a strategic defense location for the Union Army to prevent the Confederates from advancing north.
