- While a messy hairdo is attractive, it sometimes gets in the way of your daily routine. A messy up-do removes the hair from your face and neck so it can be messy but still relatively easy to manage. The messy bun is an attractive hairstyle where the hair goes into a bun at the back of the head, but has errant hairs and an unkempt look. A messy ponytail is simpler than the bun to accomplish, but it doesn’t always give the attractive appearance of the bun.
- The loose and messy hair method leaves your hair down and haphazard. It creates a shapely mane around your head that can flatter the natural shape of your face. It will tumble down around the sides of your face with wavy spots, straight spots and even some small curls. For short-haired individuals, the look involves tousled hair that sticks away from the scalp at random angles, much like you see after a night of restless sleep.
- Sometimes your hair is just naturally neat. This is when it’s time to call in hair styling products to achieve the look you desire. Lightly mousse straight, silky hair and tousle it around. The mousse provides you with the wind-swept look that has light waves and a tousled appearance. For short hair, put a nickel-size bit of hair gum on your hand. Rub your hands together and brush it through your hair. Pull your hair off in different directions to create the messy appearance you desire.
- Sometimes it’s hard to maintain the messy look throughout the day even with product. If you notice your hair taming itself, perform a few moves to save the look. For example, run to the closest bathroom with your hairdryer. Blow back your hair with the high setting on the dryer to create a wind-swept look. Tease your hair with a comb by grabbing a handful and holding it vertically. Brush the vertical hair down toward your scalp to create tangles and frizz. Carry a traveler’s size container of hair styling product to give yourself a boost when necessary as well.
