- 1). Add castile soap flakes to a glass mixing bowl, 2 qt. in size. Pour vegetable glycerin into the bowl. These materials, along with others needed in the recipe, can be obtained from a craft or hobby supply store.
- 2). Microwave the bowl on high for two to three minutes. This will melt the castile soap flakes into the glycerin.
- 3). Pour distilled water and lemongrass hydrosol into a separate glass bowl, and microwave on high for two minutes. Lemongrass hydrosol is a distillate of real lemongrass, which contains cleansing properties and a fresh, citrus-like scent.
- 4). Pour the bowl of hot lemongrass hydrosol and distilled water into the bowl containing the soap and glycerin blend. Stir the contents of the bowl vigorously for three continuous minutes with a kitchen whisk or a fork.
- 5). Pour the warm, thickened mixture into the plastic bottle. Leave the cap off, and let it cool to room temperature, which takes at least an hour. Once it reaches room temperature, add the lavender essential oil directly to the bottle. Lavender essential oil smells nice and possesses natural insect-repelling benefits. Secure the lid on the bottle, and shake it vigorously for an entire minute to thoroughly disperse the lavender oil.
