Sealing Your Concrete Surface

Concrete surface is always prone to damage.
To protect it from damage sealant is used.
Sealant provides protection against the damage done by water, dirt or other environmental elements.
These elements damage the concrete over time and reduce the life and value of your home.
Loose or crumbled concrete surface weakens the foundation and walls as moisture enters into them and gradually affects the whole structure.
Sealant is the best protection against all these elements.
Applying sealant is easy and is helpful to save money on future repairs.
Required Material Following material is required to apply seal to your concrete surface: -Paint tray -Broom -Rubber gloves -Hose -Goggles -Quikrete Multi Surface Concrete Sealer or equivalent -Drylok Concrete Cleaner & Degreaser or equivalent -Paint roller Directions 1.
There are so many types of cleaners and sealers are available in the market.
You can choose any of those according to your specifications.
Always go for the best like Quikrete Multi Surface Concrete Sealer and Drylok Concrete Cleaner & Degreaser.
They are easily available at hardware stores, true value or other home improvement stores.
Whichever product you choose, read the instructions carefully given on the products back.
Follow those instructions strictly.
2.
For best results use sealer at least 30 days after the concrete has been laid.
Within these 30 days concrete settles down completely and properly on the surface.
Properly laid concrete surface is ideal for sealer.
3.
Before dealing with sealer or cleaner, always wear safety goggles and gloves to protect your eyes and skin from direct contact to harmful chemicals present in the sealer and cleaner.
4.
The first thing to start with is to clean the concrete surface thoroughly.
There should be no debris, dirt or any sings of grime on the surface.
Dirty surface will not allow sealer to get hold of the surface properly.
Take a paint tray and make a solution with cleaner and water.
Add half of a cleaner with a quart of water into it.
Stir the mixture.
Take a paint roller and wet it with the solution and apply it on the concrete surface.
This solution will help to clean all the greasy stuff, dirt or oil from the concrete surface.
5.
Once the cleaning is done, wash the surface with hose.
Wash the entire surface so that all the cleaner and dirt and debris are cleared away.
If you are working in a rainy season, it is better to cover the surface with tarp or other covering material.
Let the surface dry completely.
6.
Wash the paint roller and paint tray and place them to dry.
7.
Add sealer into paint tray.
Take paint roller and dip it into the sealer.
Apply sealer to the concrete surface with roller.
Apply a medium coat of sealer on the surface.
A slight change in color ensures that the concrete is now sealed and protected from any dirt, or damage.
Leave the surface to air.
During that time keep the animals or anyone else away from the surface.
One way is to cover the surface with the tarp or block the passage until the sealant is dry.
