Bollywood news is all about Khans and their movies. The movies starring superstars are always in 100cr club or 200cr club, but they don't have any good concept nor are they helmed well. But, in 2014 it has proved to be opposite even superstars came up with films which were having good storylines. Especially, our female superstars like Rani Mukerji, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Rananut, etc proved their stardom at the box-office with their women-centric films. Rani Mukerji showed us her power packed performance in €Mardaani', Priyanka Chopra's punch was quite hard in the biopic of €Mary Kom' and Kanagna Ranaut's sweetness stole our hearts in €Queen'.
These women-centric films not only got thumbs up from critics but also made a mark at the box-office. As in Bollywood box office collections have become important these women-centric films not only got critical acclaim but also got good collection at the box-office. In women-centric league, even Sunny Leone gave a hit this year with the film €Ragini MMS 2'. Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla also tried their hands with the film €Gulaab Gang'. But, unfortunately it didn't work at the box-office. However, both the actresses got a lot of appreciation for their roles. With €Highway' even Alia Bhatt became an actress who gave a hit in the league of women-centric films. It was Alia's second film and her act was something that grabbed people to theatres. Imtiaz Ali has always showcased female characters quite strong in his films and he did the same thing with Alia and showed her talent in €Highway'.
However, none of the women-centric films reached the 100cr club. But, is reaching 100cr club important or a good concept is important. Even in Bollywood news these films were given more importance because of the concept and not because of their collection. This year in the award function it will be difficult to decide that which film and which actress will get the award as so many of them have given some great performance. €Creature 3D' might be a flop, but Bipasha Basu showed her exceptional acting skills in the film and she is too a contender to get the award.
In Bollywood box office collections are important atleast for the producers of the film and that's why when a producer makes a woman-centric film, he or she finely makes it with a balanced budget. The women-centric films are made with mediocre budget and that proves to be one of the reasons that the films become a hit. Sonam Kapoor's €Khoobsurat' was smartly made with the budget of Rs. 12cr and it has collected around Rs. 25cr. Next year actresses like Rani Mukerji, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Bipasha Basu and many other actresses should be nominated in the best actress category.
