How to Maintain a Healthy Weight As You Age

It should come as no surprise that as we grow older, it is that much more difficult to be able to maintain a healthy weight.
When we do find ourselves a tad bit overweight it is even tougher and takes more time to lose the weight.
Here's some free advice about what to do as you get older.
Diets are mostly ineffective at permanent weight loss, so it is essential that we add in some form of exercise to lose the weight and keep it off.
The main reason diets alone are not as effective at losing the weight and keeping it off as exercise and diet is because diets will take away fat and muscle.
Muscle is essential to our bodies metabolism and natural ability to burn fat.
So when we don't exercise we lose the ability to burn as much calories naturally throughout the day.
Experts agree that after about the age of 25, our bodies lose about 5 percent of its ability to burn calories naturally during the day.
Then each decade beyond our 20's we lose another 5 percent.
This is just an average or norm and may not apply to everybody because as we age, we become more focused on our careers and jobs and may have less time to be active and do the things that we normally did as kids.
Those who work construction or any hard labor job for that matter may not notice any decline in ability to lose weight and eat what you want without having to worry about gaining weight.
So as we do get older and more career oriented it is very important to be able to find some time to exercise.
Exercise won't only allow us to be able to lose and maintain a healthy weight, it will also decrease stress and tension, so ultimately you wont get sick as much as others who don't exercise.
Using aerobic exercises like running, walking, biking, or using an elliptical machine are great ways to get exercise into your life.
Keep in mind though that muscle mass is the most important factor of metabolism and burning natural calories.
So it is just as important to use some form of strength training and anaerobic exercise as it is aerobic exercises.
Your health and well being is not something you want to fool around with or test.
As you age it will become easier to pack on those unwanted ugly and unhealthy pounds.
