How Do I Hook Up an iPod Vehicle Adapter With a 2006 Fusion Radio?

    • 1). Remove the trim plating from around your Fusion's radio. Carefully lift the bottom corners out and away from the radio. If you cannot lift the trim by using your fingers, try using a small flat-head screwdriver. The trim is attached by tiny clips that pop out so that you may access the back of the radio. Work your way to the top of the radio until the trim is completely detached. Gently press down on the clips to disconnect the connectors attached to the trim plate. Your car should not be running during the installation.

    • 2). Unscrew the four 7mm hex-head screws from around the radio's edges, using a Phillips 7mm hex-head screwdriver. Do not lose the screws.

    • 3). Pull the radio toward you, slowly, to remove it.

    • 4). Disconnect the two cables attached to the back of the radio by gently pulling them away from the radio. One of the cables is a 24-pin cable and the other is a 16-pin cable.

    • 5). Plug in one end of the iPod adapter harness to the back of the radio.

    • 6). Plug the other end of the iPod adapter harness into the vehicle harness.

    • 7). Connect the iPod connection cable and the vehicle harness to the iPod's adapter box.

    • 8). Choose a location, preferably to the side of the radio, to place the iPod adapter box. The adapter box is small enough that the radio should still fit into the console correctly.

    • 9). Use Velcro or zip ties to secure the iPod adapter box to your desired location.

    • 10

Pull the iPod connector cable out from the radio console's hole. The connector cable will attach to your iPod, so make sure it is positioned where you would like it.

    • 11

Reconnect the cables to the back of the radio and turn your radio on. It is okay to turn on your car's engine so that you may test that the adapter is working before reinstalling your radio.

    • 12

Insert the radio back into the console and screw in the four screws around the edges.

    • 13

Connect the cable back to the trim plate and reattach the trim by popping the clips back into place, making sure to keep the iPod connector cable out. The iPod cable will run out from under the base of the trim, but the trim will still fasten, securely, back into position.
