I was desperate to learn how to make money online so when I came across an eBook which claimed to unravel the secrets for me, I bit the bullet and bought it.
It was only $50, so I justified the cost with the amount of money which the advertiser of the book promised that I'd make back over hundreds of times over.
The problem with the book was that it was about 20 pages and taught me things which I could've taught myself on the AdWords Learning Center.
It basically said to promote a product on an affiliate network called "ClickBank" using Google AdWords and watch the money roll in.
Mind you that this was back in 2006 when you could use an affiliate link as your destination URL in AdWords which you can't anymore.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, that's okay.
The point to be taken away is that I got scammed.
Luckily, I kept at affiliate marketing and began visiting forums and learning things the natural and free way from other people just by asking a lot of questions.
Over the past 5 years I learned how to find a profitable niche to promote and make money in which people were interested in buying products in, how to perform keyword research, the easiest way to set up a website quickly which looks entirely professional using WordPress, and how to get it to rank well in the search engines.
I've also learned how to tap dozens of different traffic sources to diversify the forms of traffic which come to my sites which search engines love and which creates a larger flow of traffic for your site.
Learning all of this isn't something I was able to do overnight because I had no one to guide me or tell me what I needed to know and what I didn't need to know, but I now make a very nice living solely from my affiliate marketing income although it took the better part of 5 years.
