- According to the Food and Drug Administration, cell phone towers pose no health risk to those who are in their vicinity. The FDA goes on to say that radio frequency exposure on the ground is much less than the exposure near the antenna at the top of the tower. As the FDA says, those at the base of the towers should be well within any limits of safety and shouldn't have anything to worry about.
- Studies have been conducted in Sydney by Dr. Bruce Hocking on the occurrence of leukemia in children who live near TV FM broadcast towers. These towers put out a similar kind of radiation to cell phone towers. The study showed that the rate of leukemia in children who lived near the towers was more than twice the rate of children who lived seven or more miles away. This is far from conclusive proof, but it is suggestive that the towers' safety should be more carefully assessed.
- Biomedical engineer Maria Alvez-periera claims that exposure to cell phone tower radiation can lead to vibroacoustic disease. Vibroacoustic disease is caused by an exposure to constant, low-frequency noise. The symptoms include mood swings, indigestion, ulcers and joint pain.
- According to the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, even low levels of the radiation put off by cell phone towers have been shown to cause negative effects. Damage to cells, tissues and DNA are commonly seen, and the radiation has been linked to conditions such as brain tumors, cancer, suppressed nervous system function and others.
- Experiments and research have been performed by the Institute of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy of the Veterinary School of Hanover in Germany involving dairy cows to see effects of cell phone tower radiation on them. Cows kept in proximity to a cell phone tower for two years showed a reduction in milk, as well as increased health problems and behavior anomalies. Once the cows were removed from the cell phone tower their behavior cleared up in five days, and it returned to their former, strange state when they were brought back near the tower.
