How to Connect a Laptop to an LCD TV With HDMI

    • 1). Turn on your computer and your LCD TV.

    • 2). Plug one end of your HDMI cable into the TV's HDMI port.

    • 3). Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your laptop; it will be labeled HDMI. If your laptop has no such port, plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI end of a USB to HDMI adapter, then plug the USB end of the adapter into your computer.

    • 4). Locate the function key that toggles your display to an external monitor. This is most commonly F5, but may be another key. Your user manual will tell you which key will work, or you can look for an icon on a function key (F1 through F12) that looks like a screen.

    • 5). Press the "FN" key and the function key you located simultaneously. This will place your laptop screen display on the LCD TV. You may need to toggle multiple times to get the setup you want, with either the display showing on both screens or just the LCD.
