In Ayurveda, menopause is divided into various types and different treatment is also suggested for overcoming the problems related to these types of menopause.
If you go by Ayurveda, you would find that there are four types of menopause.
The first one is Vata type which includes psychological problem symptoms such as nervousness, panic, mood swings and anxiety.
The other physical symptoms include irregular periods, insomnia, constipation, palpitations, vaginal dryness, bloating, joint aches and hot flashes.
The treatment for these symptoms is to increase the intake of warm food and drinks.
To have meals at regular intervals and the use of spices like cumin and fennel in your food.
Also decrease the intake of caffeine, aerated drinks and refined sugar.
Also follow the discipline of sleeping early, going for regular exercises like walking and yoga and go for oil massages with olive oil and almond oil.
The herbs that you can use for remedy are ashwagandha, cardamom, garlic, sandalwood, licorice, ginseng, hawthorn berries, myrrh and comfrey root.
Those who suffer from Pitta type menopause suffer from related problems like anger, irritability, sudden uncontrollable temper and physical problems like hot flashes, night sweats, urinary tract infections, acne, heavy periods and excessive bleeding.
If you have such symptoms then you should increase the intake of water, cooling foods, and sweet juicy fruits such as pears, grapes, mangoes, plums, apples, cucumber and melons.
In your food increase the intake of spices such as fennel, cinnamon and cardamom.
It is better to avoid hot and spicy foods and hot drinks and alcoholic drinks.
The lifestyle changes should include eating early at night and going to sleep before 10 p.
m.
Also go for oil massage using coconut and sesame oil.
For keeping temper under control use meditation and have limited exercise and exposure to sun.
Use the herbs such as aloe vera, barberry, saffron, golden seal and sandalwood.
Those who suffer from Kapha type menopause have the problems like weight gain, fluid retention in the body, depression, slow digestion, yeast infections and lethargy.
If you have such symptoms then you should have light, warm and dry food.
Increase the intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains in your diet.
The spices like black pepper, ginger and turmeric are good for you but stay away from cheese, meat, sugar and aerated drinks and cold food.
If you can then go for fasting once a week and always have your supper before 6 p.
m.
For lifestyle changes, you should get up early and have oil massage with mustard and linseed oil.
Include herbs such as bayberry, myrrh, mustard, motherwort, cinnamon and cayenne in your diet.
