- 1). Set your background color to a medium gray by clicking on the background color in the Tool Bar and setting the color at # 555555 in the dialogue box. Create a new image by choosing "File > New" or clicking "Control + N." In the dialogue box name your image "Metallic Effect." Choose "Default PhotoShop Elements Size" in the Preset box. Set the resolution to 72 and Color Mode to "Background Color." Click "OK."
- 2). If the Layer Palette is not visible, choose "Window > Layers." Double click on the "Background" layer in the Layer Palette. Rename this layer "Metal." Choose "Filter > Noise > Add Noise." In the dialogue box, set amount to 10 percent, check Gaussian and Monochromatic. Click "OK."
- 3). Choose"Filter > Blur > Motion Blur." In the dialogue box, set the angle to 0 and the distance to 30. Click "OK." This effect leaves the right and left edges of the image looking different from the rest of the image. In order to correct this, choose the Rectangle Marquee tool from the tool bar or by clicking "M." Select most of the image, making sure not to include the edges that need to be fixed. Choose "Image > Resize > Scale" and drag the bounding boxes just beyond the edges of the image. Click "Enter." Click "Control + D" to deselect.
- 4). Choose the "Filter > Render > Lighting" Effect. In the dialogue box, choose "Spotlight." Set the intensity to 35 and the focus to 70. In the Preview box, drag the bounding boxes outside the image and rotate the light until it is diagonal from top left to bottom right. Adjust the bounding boxes until you achieve the desired look. Click "OK."
- 5). Choose "File > Save As." Name your image and save it as a JPEG or other format.
