Portrait Painters - People Behind The Prints

Portrait painting is made because of the effort and talent of portrait painters. Without them, this kind of art will never exist . Indeed, portrait painters have a lot of contribution in the art industry . Agree or not, we are the people who harvest the product of their skills. Hence, we enjoy the appearance of portraits especially if they are imitated from the works of famous portrait painters.
Here below are some of the known portrait painters in the world. Let's go over with their life and their passion in portrait paintings.

1.Hans Hofmann
He is renowned as an influential art teacher in his native land Germany. Hofmann played a very critical role in the development and recognition of Abstract Expressionism as a form of art. He also brought direct knowledge of artwork for American people and he had developed a personal philosophy of art . He taught art subject for more than forty years and he also explored the pictorial structure, spatial tensions and color relationships. As one of the known portrait painters, he did his signature canvasses in between 1950s and 1960s. He applied what art historian Karen Wilkin has described as a range from loose accumulation of brushy strokes to crispy tailored arrangements of rectangles; but somehow seems less significant than their uniform intensity, their common ponding energy and their consistent physicality

2. Jasper Johns
Most portrait painters dreamed to be one when they were still small. Well, Jasper Johns is not an exemption. Born in Georgia and raised in South Carolina, he began to manifest his talent as early as five years old. He attended three semesters in the University of South Carolina and moved to New York to enhance his skills in art. He was also an army during Korean war but he returned to New York to pursue what he really want in life. Johns was acquainted with an artist Robert Rauschenberg, composer John Cage and choreographer Merce Cunningham. He was also a companion of some famous abstract expressionism portrait painters like Pollock, De Kooning and Newman. Johns was proclaimed as the greatest printmakers of any era . He created a lot of art products based on the portrait painting he previously painted.

3. Ivan Petrovich Argunoy
He was a Russian painter and known as one of the founders of Russian School Of Portrait Painting. Argunoy studied painting with a German painter Georg Grooth who was employed to Emperess Elizabeth of Russia. Ivan also learned from his cousins Leontyeyich and Semenovich Argunoy who were currently working in Saint-Petersburg on decorating the Imperial residences. His first artworks were the icons for the Palace Church in Great Tsarskoe Selo Palace and for the next Jerusalem Monastery. He also created the famous painting Dying Cleopatra.

In 1760s, Argunoy created many lovely and beautiful parade and psychological portraits and icons.
