- Suds appear and prevent your front loading washing machine from functioning at its peak. Front loaders are made to work without suds. If you see suds, you are actually seeing the by-product of the chemical reaction that occurs when the detergent is agitated in the water. Too many suds prevent your front loader from tumbling correctly. Regular detergent produces more suds because they are meant to work with top loaders that use a lot of water to wash your clothes. Top loaders do not agitate the water as much as front loaders do. More agitation means more suds.
- Dirty clothes also result from not using high efficiency detergent with a front-loading high efficiency washing machine. The suds produced by regular detergent prevents your clothes from fully impacting into the water by building up a cushioning layer above the water. This impact is what cleans the clothes. The suds have nothing to do with it. Front loaders bring your clothes out of the water and to the top of the tub and then dump them back into the water. If too may suds are present, the clothes cannot fully land in the water.
- Regular detergent also builds up a film in your front loader. This film covers the hoses and drum. Mold eventually grows on this film. Also, the suds manage to get into the bearings of the tumbler, preventing it from tumbling properly. The pump of your front loader can also overheat due to the abundance of suds. Vibration, leaking and poor and/or noisy operation result.
- Because regular detergents are made for use with top loaders that use a lot of water, front-loading high efficiency washers that use much less water are not able to completely rinse these detergents out after a cycle. This leads to residue accumulation and a film that attracts mold. After a while, the film buildup and mold growing on the film result in a musky smell coming from your washer and remaining in your clothes.
