- The booking process.
Your Sim books a vacation through the telephone or computer using the "Vacation" command. Choose the departure date, up to six days in advance; the length of stay, between three and seven days; who will accompany your Sim, if anyone; and the destination. Booking further in advance lowers the cost, which is shown on the booking screen as you adjust the reservation options.
A van will show up on the morning of the departure date, around 8, to take your Sim on her trip. Time will be frozen on the Sim's home lot while the Sim is away, however, any pets or children at home must have a babysitter with them. You will be prompted to appoint a Sim babysitter or hire a nanny at the end of the reservation process. - Hotel check-in desk.
After the travel agency van collects your Sims from their home, a splash screen will show the vacation destination you picked, followed by the splash screen for the lodging you booked. The van will drop your Sims off at the public telephone booth in front of your lodging building. To choose a room, click a bedroom door, then send your Sim to the front desk to check-in officially. If your Sims become tired or need a shower or the bathroom, they will automatically return to the room you picked when public facilities aren't close by. - Sim eating at an island food stand.
Sims can order room service from their bedroom by clicking the phone, or they can eat at food stands and restaurants on the vacation lot. Prices for each meal are listed when you order. The vacation lot also offer various activities such as swimming, saunas or looking for seashells, depending on the destination. Your Sim can book an excursion tour by contacting the tour guide stationed near the public telephone at the entrance to the lot. Fees are charged per person, and the tour takes place off screen, similar to how going to work happens in The Sims 2 main game. During the tour, a dialog box will appear, asking you to make a choice about a situation happening on the tour. Your choice can have a positive or negative outcome for your Sims, and they may return from the tour elated or utterly depressed, depending on what happened to them. - Sim vacation memento screen.
Your Sim can command any neighboring Sim to "Take My Picture," and if you click your Sim, the command "Pose" is available so your Sim can mug for the camera. A rectangular viewfinder allows you to center the Sim subject before pressing the C key to take the picture. When your Sim returns from vacation, individual prints or a photo album can be ordered from the phone or computer. If your Sim visits a community lot while on vacation, he can purchase souvenirs. The Sim's "Wants" panel lists things your Sim would like to do on vacation such as learn a local dance or eat a particular local food. When fulfilled, your Sim's memento screen found on the Simology "memories" panel receives an icon. If your Sim returns from vacation with a lot of mementos, souvenirs and a positive feeling, she will receive temporary rewards to boost her mood even more.
