How to Connect Brass to Copper

    • 1). Clean the end of the pipe by rotating the emery cloth around its circumference. The end should shine bright when you are done.

    • 2). Apply flux to the end of the pipe by brushing it on the entire end that joins with the brass fitting.

    • 3). Push the pipe into the brass fitting until it reaches the end of the joint.

    • 4). Hold the copper pipe about a foot from the connection and heat the fitting with the propane torch. Move the torch around to avoid burning the brass.

    • 5). Apply the solder to the joint and allow it to melt and draw itself into the union.

    • 6). Allow the pipe and fitting to cool naturally for several minutes.
