- Downtown Las Vegas features the 1950s and 1960s casinos and motels and the "Fremont Street Experience" (along with a red light district and skid row). "The Strip" runs through unincorporated Clark County. Starting at The Stratosphere, it stretches about four miles south to The Luxor, Mandalay Bay and Four Seasons.
- Casinos run from the affordable to the more upscale to the beyond upscale. Shop around for deals on the hotels, restaurants and casino perks, which are especially good Sunday through Thursday.

During the day, get out of the city to Hoover Dam (30 miles south), Red Rock Canyon (20 miles west), White Rock Canyon/Arizona Hot Springs (45 miles south), Mount Charleston (15 miles north), Lake Mead (35 miles south), Pahrump Valley Winery (50 miles southwest) and Death Valley (135 miles west). The Grand Canyon is 250 miles away, but helicopter tours are available. - Prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas and Clark County. It is legal only in Nevada counties with fewer than 250,000 people (only seven actually have brothels) and then only at state-licensed brothels. Streetwalkers and call girls in the four-color ads are illegal everywhere in the state.
- After flying into McCarran International Airport, casino shuttles and taxis are available to your hotel. If other destinations are not within walking distance, there are taxis and Regional Transportation Commission buses. The Las Vegas Monorail operates a 3.9-mile-long track between The Strip and the Las Vegas Convention Center to the east as of August 2010 despite a January 2010 bankruptcy filing.
