Birthday Games for 60-Year-Olds

    • You can make "over-the-hill" birthday celebrations fun and exciting for both the celebrant and other guests his age. Organizing games that make the celebrant and his guests laugh assures an entertaining party. The goal is to make both celebrant and guests enjoy the party, taking into consideration that the celebrant must remain in the spotlight. While you can give him a heads up with other details, you can keep the games as a surprise for him.

    Make it about the celebrant

    • Games along the lines of "how well do you know" keeps the celebrant under the spotlight while actively involving all guests, from family to friends. As the party planner, your job is to get the game questions right. While you can have the celebrant screen your questions and get his answers in advance, surprising the celebrant keeps the party energy at a constant high.

Easy games like this only require pens, sheets of paper and a well-prepared questionnaire where the host can read off the questions to avoid dead air time. You can get guests of all ages to join in, even the grandkids for some really funny answers!

    Over The Hill Bingo

    • Most people know the general rules of bingo, which makes this a fun and relaxing game. Each player gets a sheet of paper with bingo boxes printed on it. Each box contains an item that most 50- to 65-year-olds can relate to, like "aching back." The host can draw strips of paper from a bowl and call out the items. The first player to mark all his boxes wins the game.

For younger guests like the celebrant's grandchildren, you can hold a separate round for them. Just replace the items with moments with the grandparent, important dates and events in the celebrant's life.

Best in costume, with a twist

    • There are two ways to tweak the costume game. The first game only works with a themed party and a cool 60-year-old. Prepare a theme outside the celebrant's comfort zone. Stay away from themes like the 1960s or other eras or events the celebrant has experienced. Instead, choose themes like Glam Rock and Teens Today. Themes like these show how they interpret a different generation.

The second version requires the host to pre-match guests. With your invitation, include the name of another guest, which the recipient would prepare a costume for, based on a preset theme. Of course, this game assumes that all guests come from the same circle of friends or family.

The celebrant has to dress up according to the theme and judge the competition. You can divide guests into categories falling under Children and Adults or divide them even further to include gender.
